Harald Glaab is a very competent programmer who for over 20 years has contributed many very useful pieces of software to the TI community that are still in use today. He is the software side of the SNUG (System-99 User-Group) group and joins Michael Becker (the hardware side of the SNUG group) who was inducted to the TI99HOF on September 9, 2005.
Harald acquired his first TI-99/4A in 1982 and started assembly programming in 1984. He owns a complete SNUG TI system and does most of his TI-programming on a PC using the LGMA Cross Assembler 2.11 written by Alan Beard.
Harald's many accomplishments include:
- Writing the final DSR programs that enabled the release of the range of SNUG peripheral hardware cards designed by Michael Becker. This included the ASCSI, BwG, EVPC, HRD16, HSGPL, SGCPU and SPVMC cards. In addition to supplying the initial DSR software for these cards he continues to upgrade and revise this software to accommodate developing needs. Most of his work on these cards started in 1990 and continues to this day.
- Maintaining and monitoring the SNUG website where details about the above cards are available.
- Since many European TI99ers use the 80-column system he has upgraded many of his programs to accommodate this format. He has also developed a variety of other software including the DSRLDR3, DSRSCAN, SCSI-RUN, MUSIC-SAMPLER, and TICHAR programs. He co-authored the Memory Manager 3.0 program with Christopher Winter and he wrote some additional programs for it like ProgrammerSupport and a sound-utility.
- He worked on the development of the '32K on 16 bit bus' modification for the TI-99/4A console and helped to get an emulation of a HSGPL gram card working on the MESS TI-99/4A emulator. He also helped add SCSI code to the MDOS 6.0a operating system used on Geneve computers.
- In addition to writing the SNUG software he wrote all the related documentation in German and subsequently arranged to have these documents translated to English.
- Harald attends many of the German TI group meetings and has demonstrated SNUG cards at several of the European TI-Treffs meetings. He and Fred Kaal were co-winners of the 2002 Jim Peterson Achievement Awards in the TI-99/4A Software category.
Harald was born in 1964 and now lives in Aschaffenburg where he works at Deutsche Telekom, the major German phone company. He is married and they have a son and a daughter.
